Spaghettios, Home Depot, Pepto-Bismol and many others have shown how us what happens when you have a social media team that may be incompetent. We’ve come to expect such things from brands and advertising agencies. But shouldn’t we have a higher expectation from the most powerful brand in the world?
Below is a tweet that the White House and President Obama’s administration put out yesterday. This isn’t about politics. I’m not stepping into that arena. This is purely about what happens when you have a social team in place that doesn’t really pay attention to what’s going on. Never mind the fact that it was a troll’s dream come true!
Again, with brand faux-pas, we know that quite a few people give the thumbs up before something is posted so it’s never the fault of one person. One has to imagine that the most powerful brand in the world has a vetting process for every single document…every single word, that is sent from the oval office.
So how does this happen? We’re people afraid to speak up? Did they have to post the tweet to see what was in it? (sorry…couldn’t resist that one!)
