Have you ever heard someone say that “they do social”? What does that mean? It seems everyone is telling every business and brand on the planet that they “do social“. It’s an overused phrase that we feel is a bit misleading.
We also talk about the need for brands and businesses to humanize their social media efforts. On the show we reference a few articles:
- a Forbes article titled: Five Tips For Humanizing Social Media Strategy
- an article by Amy Jo Martin on the Harvard Business Review titled: To Monetize Social Media Humanize It
We also refer to a quote that I think epitomizes the problem that some brands have in social media. It’s by Michael Littman who writes a blog for CMOs and he nailed it with this.
“Obviously price/item advertising is essential for many marketers. But when all you do is talk about your price, your brand is about your price. Period”
I love that quote. If you take the human side out of your marketing, you’ll never be remembered for what you stand for. All you’ll be remembered for is a sales price. It might work for a while, but it’s not a long term strategy in today’s social driven environment.
In this episode, we feature a great interview with the “UnMarketer”, Scott Stratten. Scott is the President of Un-Marketing. He is an expert in Viral, Social, and Authentic Marketing which he calls Un-Marketing. It’s all about positioning yourself as a trusted expert in front of your target market, so when they have the need, they choose you.
